The Knife tool is used quickly and precisely add new points to splines.
It's used similarly to Blender's native Knife tool for cutting geometry on mesh objects.

Selection
- no particular selection is required, but POLY or NURBS splines need to be present
Statusbar
The statusbar at the bottom of Blender - after invoking the tool - provides all the info you need in regards to what keys you can press to modify the tool's behavior.
Using Knife
- Invoke Knife from the Menu, or using the Keymap
- Click-drag-release to make your cut, intersecting one or multiple splines with the purple line
- this is the faster method
- Alternatively you can click-release, move the mouse, and click again to make a cut too
- With the modal active, you can hold down the
ALT
key to change into Split mode, which will not only create new points, but create new splines at the intersection points - After a cut - but not when split-cutting - the new points will be selected automatically
